The Perpetual collection welcomes the Padellone

Perpetual PadelloneAfter 77 years the Perpetual collection welcomes the Padellone, a watch featuring an instantaneous full annual calendar. Displaying the date, day, month and moonphase, it incorporates pioneering technical innovations that reaffirm the brand’s mastery of watchmaking complications.

Inspired by the legendary reference 8171 from 1949 — nicknamed the “Padellone” by Italian collectors — this 39 mm model, caliber 7190 is available in Everose gold, with either a Settimo bracelet or a brown leather strap, and in platinum, with a black leather strap. 

The Everose gold versions feature an intense white dial, while the platinum version is adorned with an ice blue dial. All feature a grained finish at the centre and a satin finish around the edge. A blue central hand, tipped with a crescent moon, indicates the date. At 12 o’clock, two apertures display the day and month; at 6 o’clock, a blue enamel disc presents the moonphases, with the full and new moons crafted out of meteorite. 

These calendar functions are adjusted using the four lateral correctors on the case. Its transparent case back reveals calibre 7190, its yellow gold oscillating weight and its bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève. Beating at 5 hertz, this movement is the subject of 30 patent applications, including two exclusive patents. These relate to the instantaneous changeover at midnight of the date, day and month, as well as to the double date jump for 30-day months, enabled by the new Haplos calendar. Its astronomical moonphase reproduces the lunar cycle with a one-day adjustment every 122 years.
